New Partner Fflur Jones appointed at Darwin Gray

Published May 2010

South Wales law firm Darwin Gray Solicitors has promoted Fflur Jones to become a Partner.

Fflur, from Bala, started her career at Darwin Gray after qualifying in 2003. In 2008 she was made an Associate and has now become the first partner to be appointed internally at the growing law firm.

Her promotion brings the number of partners to 11. Six of the firm’s 19 lawyers are also Welsh speakers, including Fflur.

Fflur specialises in employment law and acts on behalf of businesses, public sector organisations and private clients. Her work includes negotiating both entrance and exit packages, advising on large scale redundancies, unfair dismissal, discrimination law and Employment Tribunal claims. She has also advised extensively on exit packages for senior executives leaving blue chip City and media businesses in London.

During her time at Darwin Gray, Fflur has gained a considerable reputation in discrimination work, acting for both individuals and organisations. She also provides advice and training on non-contentious work such as equal opportunities and the employment law aspects of corporate deals undertaken by Darwin Gray.

Away from Darwin Gray, Fflur continues to put her legal skills to good use, providing pro bono advice on employment law matters through several outlets including the Welsh charity Asylum Justice of whom she is also a director. In 2007 the Law Society recognised her work with the charity and awarded her the prestigious title of the UK’s Young Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year.

Founding Partner Bethan Darwin said: “We are delighted to make this appointment. It’s a landmark for us because Fflur is the first person to develop all the way to Partner within the firm having started her career with us straight after qualifying.

“Her appointment not only strengthens Darwin Gray further in employment law but also as a commercial law firm which provides the full range of legal services businesses may require.

“It brings us up to 11 partners in total which is impressive for a firm starting from scratch in just eight years, but it has always been a cornerstone of our strategy to provide a partner-led service with all the quality you’d associate with that level of skill and experience.”

Fflur Jones said, “I’m delighted to be made a Partner in such a thriving law firm. When I first joined, Darwin Gray was just starting out but our success has led to both the remarkable growth of the business and recognition from our peers in both Wales and London. I hope my appointment will help us to grow further as a fully rounded commercial law firm.”
