Alison’s career started in 1980 at Gwent County Council, where she gained various promotions dealing with a wide range of work including compulsory purchase and property.

In 1988 she joined the Land Authority for Wales, later to become its Deputy Legal Adviser. In the following eight years Alison enjoyed an exceptional experience of development, planning, compulsory purchase and joint venture projects as well as advising at Board level.

On qualification in 1996, Alison entered private practice joining Palser Grossman, where, after two years, she became a Partner and head of property. Alison continued to concentrate on development and strategic projects, translating her public sector experience into a number of high profile regeneration projects.

In 2002 she was invited to join Hugh James as a partner handling numerous strategic development schemes.

In 2006 Alison joined Darwin Gray as a partner and still acts for many developers that she first worked with in the late 1980’s. Alison is a well known property specialist and an acknowledged leader in her field.

Alison applies her broad experience in real estate to advise both private and public sector clients and retains her particular interest in development and related issues.

Examples of work undertaken

Commercial Property

  • Public/private partnership developments for new housing settlements and social infrastructure to include complex multi party planning agreements, highway and landowner/consortium arrangements;
  • Conditional purchases; land swap and partition arrangements and phased disposals of serviced parcels with ongoing development obligations; overage arrangements; phased purchase and payment arrangements;
  • Option agreements and landowner arrangements for apportionment or equalisation of land value across multiple owners;
  • Urban regeneration including the purchase and development of contaminated sites and the redevelopment of waterside and town centre projects with associated planning issues, site remediation contracts, infrastructure agreements, phased disposal, remediation warranties and related consortium arrangements;
  • Site set up and residential or mixed use developments to maximise reversionary value;
  • Complex management arrangements for residential apartments and green spaces; rent charges and personal covenants for payment of maintenance expenses;
  • Planning matters to include unilateral planning obligations in support of a planning application or appeal; Affordable housing;
  • Compulsory purchase and the cleansing of title in order to bring land forward for development; arrangements with the public sector to facilitate land assembly using compulsory purchase;
  • Managing and collating title information and property warranties on a local authority housing stock transfer amounting to approximately 14,000 properties.
