Donald spent the first seven years of his professional life working in London before moving to South Wales in August 1990.  His experience in London
began with commercial litigation but soon moved on to a mixture of commercial work.

Very few in professional services could avoid the impact of the recession in the early 1990s and in Donald’s case this meant having to concentrate on new areas of work when he joined the Cardiff firm of Edward Lewis & Co. He carried out a large proportion of the insolvency work at Edward Lewis (particularly involving land and intellectual property) as well as being involved in a large open cast coal-mining project. He left Edward Lewis following the changes in the firm's partnership and subsequently became a partner with Palser Grossman in 1995.

In March 2002, with a wealth of experience under his belt, Donald founded Darwin Gray with Bethan Darwin.

Donald now concentrates on a number of discrete areas of work which reflect the experience he has built up in these areas.
