Darwin Gray Cardiff

Cardiff’s legal needs have changed a lot over the last decade. The city’s grown into a serious commercial hub, with tech firms, creative businesses, public sector organisations and Welsh Government agencies all operating side by side. You need solicitors who actually understand that landscape, not a firm that treats Cardiff like a satellite office.

That’s where we come in. Our head office sits on Cathedral Road in Pontcanna, a few minutes from Cardiff Central station and right in the heart of the city’s professional services district. From here, we look after clients across Cardiff, Cardiff Bay, Newport, the Vale of Glamorgan, the South Wales Valleys and beyond.

You’ll get expert commercial, employment, corporate and property law advice from a team that knows Welsh business inside out. No layers of gatekeepers. No impenetrable legal jargon. Just practical, commercial guidance, delivered in English or Welsh, whichever you prefer.

About Cardiff and Our Commitment to the City

Cardiff is Wales’ capital and its commercial engine. Home to the Senedd, Welsh Government, major public sector employers, a thriving tech and creative scene, and one of the UK’s most successful sporting cities. We’ve been part of that story for over two decades.

Being a Cardiff firm isn’t just about the postcode on our letterhead. It’s about showing up for the local business community, supporting Welsh causes that matter to us, and investing in the next generation of Welsh lawyers. You’ll find us at Cardiff Business Club events, working with the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, and partnering with charities and organisations across the city.

FAQs: Solicitors in Cardiff

Where is your Cardiff office based?

We’re on Cathedral Road in Pontcanna, just west of Cardiff city centre and the River Taff. The full address is 9 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9HA. It’s a short taxi ride from Cardiff Central Station and easy to reach from the M4 at Junction 29 (east) or Junction 33 (west). We can arrange private parking for visiting clients, so let us know when you’re coming in.

Do I need to visit your Cardiff office to get legal advice?

Not at all. Plenty of our clients prefer phone or video meetings, especially if they’re based outside Cardiff or want a quick turnaround. We’re set up for hybrid working, so you can get the same quality of advice whether you’re in the office or on a video call. That said, we do rate face-to-face meetings, and we’ll always come out to see you on-site if that’s easier.

Can I get legal advice in Welsh at your Cardiff office?

Yes. We’re Wales’ leading Welsh language commercial law firm, with Welsh speakers across every level of the firm, from trainees to partners. If you’d prefer your matter handled in Welsh, just let us know when you get in touch and we’ll make sure you’re matched with a Welsh-speaking solicitor.

How much do your Cardiff solicitors charge?

It depends on the service. For some matters we can offer fixed fees, so you know exactly what you’re paying before we start. For other work, we’ll agree an hourly rate or a budget upfront. We’re transparent about costs and you’ll always get a clear estimate before any work begins.

What areas do you cover from your Cardiff office?

We work with clients right across South Wales, including Cardiff, Cardiff Bay, Newport, Barry, Penarth, Bridgend, Pontypridd, Caerphilly, Cwmbran, Merthyr Tydfil, and the wider South Wales Valleys. We also support clients across the UK, and our Bangor office covers North Wales.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes. Your first chat with us is always free and no-obligation. Call 02920 829 100 or fill in our online enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a time to talk through your situation and whether we’re the right fit.

Are you a commercial law firm or do you help individuals too?

Both. We’re primarily a commercial firm, working with businesses, public sector organisations and third-sector clients. But we also help individuals with employment disputes, property transactions, wills and probate, and dispute resolution. What we don’t handle is divorce and family law, criminal law, personal injury, medical negligence, legal aid work, and residential conveyancing. If your matter falls into one of those areas, we’re happy to recommend someone who can help.

Are you ranked in Legal 500 or Chambers and Partners?

Yes, we’re ranked in Legal 500 for Employment, Corporate and Commercial, and Commercial Property. Chambers and Partners also recognises us across multiple practice areas. Several of our partners are individually ranked.

How quickly can you start work on my matter?

Faster than most firms our size. Our devolved decision-making means partners can make calls on new instructions without waiting for committees. For urgent matters, we can often turn things around the same day. Just give us a ring and explain what you need.

What sectors do your Cardiff solicitors specialise in?

We work across a broad range of Welsh sectors, including tech and digital, media and creative, public sector and local government, hospitality and leisure, manufacturing, agriculture, charities and social enterprises, and professional services.

Do you act for Welsh Government or public sector clients?

Yes, we regularly advise public sector bodies and Welsh Government-backed organisations on employment, procurement, and commercial matters. Our understanding of the devolved regulatory environment makes us a natural fit.

How do I make a complaint about my solicitor?

We hope it never comes to that, but if you’re unhappy with our service, please tell us so we can put it right. You’ll find our full complaints procedure on our website. You can also escalate to the Legal Ombudsman if needed. We’re authorised and regulated by the SRA, and you can verify our details on the Law Society’s Find a Solicitor register.
