Damian joined Darwin Gray in 2009 as a partner in the Employment and HR team and advises on contentious and non-contentious employment law issues. Damian is also head of the Sport team and has considerable experience of acting for professional sportspeople and Clubs.

Damian trained at Charles Crookes and in 2002 joined a firm in Bristol, after which he spent the next 6 years at Hugh James.

Damian joined Darwin Gray in 2009 as a partner in the Employment and HR team. Damian advises employers and senior executives on contentious and non-contentious employment law issues and has considerable experience in unfair dismissal, disability discrimination, TUPE, business reorganisation, redundancy, corporate acquisitions and disciplinary procedures.

Damian regularly works on company policies, procedures, employee contracts, service agreements, and advising senior executives on negotiating exits. He is an experienced advocate in employment tribunals and regulatory hearings.

Damian has been described by clients as “One of the most knowledgeable employment lawyers in South Wales” (Legal 500). He has also been praised for his “clear, concise and factual” advice (Chambers).

 

Damian is also head of the Sport team, he has considerable experience of acting for a number of professional sportspeople and Clubs on employment law issues. Damian has acted for numerous high-profile rugby union international coaches and players in contract negotiations and disputes.

Damian delivers training on employment law topics, often appears as a legal commentator on BBC Radio, and is a regular contributor to employment law news. Damian was the elected South Wales Representative of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA) between 2008 and 2012. In 2012, he was elected Treasurer, which he carried out until he stood down in 2014. During this time, Damian sat on ELA’s National Management Committee.

Personal Interests

Damian is a WRU Level 1 qualified coach and coaches the u12s at Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd. He used to enjoy playing rugby and football, but now sticks to cycling, tennis and half marathons. Cooking is a hobby his wife and children appreciate.
